Thumb-stopping TikTok Ad Concepts Your Business Should Try This 2022

Reaching more than 1 billion monthly active users and counting, TikTok is one of the most used social media apps today. Though its parent company ByteDance does not regularly publish or share the app’s statistics, it is undeniably a great platform for advertisers. Many believe it has a larger audience and has more promising opportunities than we can think of.

If you are not familiar with TikTok, it is a social networking service that originated in China that focuses on sharing short videos. It is originally known as Douyin, then merged with the lip-syncing app Musical.ly in 2018 when it was acquired by its parent company. Unlike other video-sharing apps like YouTube, the videos posted in the app are in portrait view. It has an easy-to-use interface, as watching the next or previous video will only require swiping up or down on the home screen.

Being user-friendly and consistently trending, placing an ad on TikTok will surely get your business noticed. Clueless on where to jump on this bandwagon? Here are some of the TikTok ad concepts you should try this 2022.

1. Make sure to have a catchy start while being funny or informative.

Gone are the days that ads should be too professional. Especially on this platform, most of the videos posted are for fun or could be informative at the same time. If you would like to create an ad in this social media app, make sure to add some humor while promoting the brand, product, and/or service offered by the business.

As mentioned, TikTok videos are usually short, which means that the time frame of the ad is limited. Though it recently allowed uploading a 3-minute video, most viewers are already used to watching short clips. Once they find it time-consuming, a simple ‘swipe up’ action will make them skip your ad easily. If you have watched some of the ads placed on TikTok, it usually starts with a catchy line. Try starting the ad with lines like “This is what you are looking for” or “The trending product that everyone has been talking about!”.

2. Collaborate with creative ‘TikTokers’.

Users that usually upload content on TikTok are usually called ‘TikTokers’. Just like how brands collaborate with YouTubers, your business should also try partnering with an active and trending user on TikTok. The good thing about this concept is how a TikToker can share some insights on how to make it more appealing to its audience. In addition, some of them have cutting-edge video editing software and skills that can make the video more attention-grabbing.

Take note that some TikTokers also have a specific target market, as they could focus their content on specific subjects like beauty, travel, tech, etc. Make sure that whenever you would like to hire their services, it should be catering to the business’ target market as well. Hence, it is important to have a solid influencer marketing guide to make sure that your business is growing with your chosen brand partners.

3. Add a specific link to your ad.

The good thing about TikTok ads is that they look similar to other content posted by users. As of writing, you’ll only see the word ‘Sponsored’ on the lower left side of the screen. After watching, there will be a link that users can tap. This allows the business to increase its brand awareness and let users know more about what it offers. This is the best option when your business offers different products and/or services and would like to focus on a specific one. Adding a specific link will direct users more easily than asking them to search for your website online.

4. Let the business use TikTok’s ‘trending’ resources.

If you would like to upload a video to the business’ TikTok account, try using its vast collection of different resources. Merging with the Musical.ly app, users can simply do a lip-synch and be creative in making the brand’s interpretation. Apart from this, the social media app also has tons of filters exclusive for use on the platform. Since the app will mention the filter used for the video, clicking on it will show the top trending videos which could include your ad.

TikTok’s algorithm can be seen through its ‘For You Page’ or the FYP section on the homepage. If you would like to cater to specific users, studying and learning more about how the site’s algorithm works can show results when done in the right way.

5. Connect with the audience and the loyal fans.

The platform has plenty of ways on how the ad or video can engage the audience and its brand’s community. The most popular in this platform are challenges like 'mukbang' (videos that show people eating different quantities of foods, perfect for food businesses) or hauls (best for businesses offering a wide range of products). Another option is creating duets - but do not necessarily require singing. Duets are side-by-side videos where your clip can be merged with the users. You might be amazed at how witty and hilarious a TikToker can do with your videos.

User-Generated Content (UGC) usually delivers more results than just normal ads. Think of it as ‘word of mouth’ but through the most creative way possible. Hashtags also work with TikTok, just like most social media sites. Creating and promoting loyal fans to use a specific hashtag can increase brand visibility online and easily connect to fans. Imagine Tiktokers uploading their content mentioning your brand or business without paying them. As they say, "the best things in life are free".

It is no doubt that TikTok is one of the most-used apps of this generation. Though it does not directly use as a platform for communication, it could be an outlet for creativity. Your business can take advantage of this as people would love to see brands that take ads to a whole new level. Aside from increasing brand awareness, joining the TikTok craze can also boost your sales. It could also open to more opportunities leading to a more successful business for the year 2022. Who knows, the next trending ad could be from your business' TikTok account.
